As part of the CHARM-EU European University, the international conference ‘𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫 : 𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐨𝐠𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐨 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧 𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫𝐬’ took place on 25 September, bringing together clinicians, researchers and patient associations (Digestive cancers Europe, Mon réseau cancer colorectal… ), who shared their work and expertise with international students from various disciplines at the universities of Montpellier and Utrecht. The event was organised in close collaboration with the SIRIC Montpellier Cancer, a site of excellence in cancer research accredited by the French National Cancer Institute (INCa), as well as the ICM – Institut du Cancer de Montpellier, the IRCM – Institut de Recherche en Cancérologie de Montpellier, and the IBMM Institut des Biomolécules Max Mousseron.
It inaugurates an experimental teaching module in English open to students from the two partner universities. Entitled ‘𝐓𝐚𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐡𝐮𝐛’, this international and interdisciplinary module is organised as part of the CHARM-EU alliance of European universities and draws on the excellence of international research networks to tackle challenges of global significance, allowing students to experience a pedagogy centred on solving challenges while preparing to design a research project.
Following the conference, students will work in teams for a semester to propose research projects related to the disease in question, with the support of researchers interested in the topic, as well as patients and experts in the field. They will be presenting their collective work on 11 December.
