As part of the Nantes Université Scientific Days, representatives from the eight French SIRICs gathered on 29 May 2026 for a day of discussions and knowledge sharing dedicated to circulating biomarkers in oncology.

This national symposium provided an important opportunity to strengthen collaboration within the scientific and clinical community committed to diagnostic innovation. It highlighted major advances in circulating biomarkers, paving the way for earlier, less invasive, and more personalized precision medicine.

Representing SIRIC Montpellier Cancer, researcher A. Thierry presented three studies conducted by his team:

  • Results from the first interventional study within a large prospective, multicentre trial evaluating the use of circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) analysis in oncology.
  • Development and evaluation of an AI-assisted ctDNA fragmentomics test for cancer screening.
  • The impact of mitochondrial-derived ctDNA, circulating cell-free mitochondria, and Neutrophil Extracellular Traps (NETs) in cancer.

The symposium also fostered discussions on the development of a national liquid biopsy network, with a proposal to hold the next meeting in Montpellier in early 2027.
