Elodie Desplanche, Research Officer in Adapted Physical Activity at the ICM Supportive Care Department

Elodie Desplanche, research officer in Adapted Physical Activity at ICM and winner of the 2024 GEFLUC Occitanie and SIRIC Montpellier Cancer Call For Projects, presents her innovative APAMuS project for promoting physical activity among women undergoing hormone therapy.
    • What is your background?

After completing a university program in Adapted Physical Activity (APA) and earning a PhD in exercise physiology at the PhyMedExp laboratory (INSERM, CNRS, University of Montpellier), I joined the Cancer Institute of Montpellier (ICM) as a Research Officer in Adapted Physical Activity within the Supportive Care Department, with the support of SIRIC Montpellier Cancer. The SIRIC conducts integrated, innovative research that perfectly aligns with my background, bringing together multidisciplinary teams focused on a common goal: advancing clinical practices in oncology.

  • Could you tell us about the project you are leading for SIRIC Montpellier Cancer?

With the support of SIRIC Montpellier Cancer, my role is to develop integrated research in adapted physical activity for cancer patients.

In 2025, we will launch the APAMuS project in collaboration with the young university startup Beatmove. The goal of this project is to test an innovative tool designed to promote regular physical activity among women undergoing hormone therapy for breast cancer. This tool uses ankle sensors and a mobile app to sync the musical rhythm with the walking pace, gradually adjusting the intensity. This initiative reflects SIRIC’s commitment to integrating technological innovation into the patient care pathway.

  • What are your main aspirations for 2025?

I aim to finalize this project with strong results, laying the foundation for a broader study, especially by customizing the physical activity program to each patient’s target heart rate.

Additionally, I hope to introduce a new research focus within SIRIC, envisioning the creation of a personalized app to support patients’ physical activity needs.
